A July birthstone, rubies are the ancient hotness that brings modern heat

It's only fitting that the birthstone for a month of sizzling temperatures in the western hemisphere is one associated with romance and love. Whether that's a slow walk on the beach with your beloved or a more heated cabana fling, you'll find rubies bringing some royalty to the party. Ruby lore holds that the gems have powers of protection, invulnerability in battle, the ability to reincarnate as royalty (I guess if the whole invulnerability thing didn't work out), healing, and uh.... the ability to boil water. 

We were excited to find these rubies with internal flaws and external chips with an imperfectly hand cut for a mined ruby look at a fraction of the cost. They have a perfectly flawed boho casual attitude. Most lab created gems are intentionally "perfect". While very popular, this perfection can lead to them looking less authentic than mined stones which usually have inclusions and imperfections when it comes to precious gems. We also sell "perfect" lab rubies if you prefer them.

We only have these in 5mm right now to "test the waters" and see if people are interested in them, but we have the ability to custom order other sizes.

What are Lab Created gems?

These are no imitation: they're cut from genuine sapphire crystals grown in a lab to exactly replicate their formation in the depths of the earth. Lab grown gems provide high-quality gems at a lower cost while avoiding conflict and other ethical issues that sometimes accompany mined stones. Lab created gems are not infinitely available in every possible color forever. And sometimes, colors change or stop being available - which is a good reason to collect these affordable gems when you see something you love for sale. Growers do go out of business or discontinue colors.

How to choose a stud earring size:

3mm is a tiny stud earring perfect for cartilage and multiple piercings. 4mm is a dainty stud earring that also works well for cartilage piercings. 5mm is a good minimalist everyday stud earring size. 6mm is large, but still casual. 8mm are statement stud earrings with a bold look. What to know about gemstone jewelry:

Gems (yes, even lab created gems!) are individual pieces of nature's art with minor variations in pattern, color, size, and shape. Gem sizes can vary +/- .2mm. Often, large gems are darker than small ones. I do promise you'll be happy with them, and accept exchanges as well as special requests like "Prefer darker green over lighter" which I will do my best to match within my stock. Some gems are fragile and should not go in an ultrasonic or steam cleaner.
