Description
Pigeon Blood red ruby stud earrings in solid platinum, 14k white, yellow, or rose gold, or sterling silver
Your pigeon blood red ruby earrings are made to order with ethically sourced lab created gemstones and recycled, US-refined precious metals, expertly hand-set in our rural Oregon studio. Founded in 1996, we are a woman-owned US microbusiness creating quality fine jewelry that stands the test of time. Stud earrings are ideal self-love gifts to yourself, with brilliant colors to uplift your spirits and infuse your mood with joy. They are a very popular choice for men's earrings. We also love sending these out as gifts for Mother's Day, Christmas, your partner, or bridesmaids!
A July birthstone, rubies are the ancient hotness that brings modern heat
It's only fitting that the birthstone for a month of sizzling temperatures in the western hemisphere is one associated with romance and love. Whether that's a slow walk on the beach with your beloved or a more heated cabana fling, you'll find rubies bringing some royalty to the party. Ruby lore holds that the gems have powers of protection, invulnerability in battle, the ability to reincarnate as royalty (I guess if the whole invulnerability thing didn't work out), healing, and uh.... the ability to boil water.
To be very clear: We didn't coin the term Pigeon Blood Red. It's long been an industry term for the very most exquisitely valuable, rare shade of ruby. While we would like to know what the poor pigeons ever did to a jeweler or their wealthy patron to be so loathed their blood would be considered DECORATIVE, we'll admit that it's at least evocative. The gems themselves have the good grace to look like they would be at least mildly uncomfortable at a crime scene. But if you're a TV costume designer, we will drop the hint that if your femme fatale detective (who is secretly a spy) walks into a murder scene at a high-end BDSM club on Valentine's Day, she's wearing a pair of these. So is your uncannily pale British student, studying in the shadows of the most obscure stacks in the ornate university library, a hooded cloak obscuring most of her face but slipping just enough to reveal a dark red gem on her earlobe.
Notes: (1.) If you have our Crimson Red rubies, these are really similar, just with subtle undertone differences in bright lighting. You probably don't need both in the same size and might be hard-pressed to tell the difference. Sorting these with a high-CRI full-spectrum jewelry light is challenging, let's put it that way. (2.) Also, the 4mm lean kinda pinker than the other sizes in these right now. (3.) If you're looking for a more fire-engine, orange-based red, that's a harder ask… our red Helenite studs are about the only option there.

What are Lab Created gems?
These are no imitation: they're cut from genuine sapphire crystals grown in a lab to exactly replicate their formation in the depths of the earth. Lab grown gems provide high-quality gems at a lower cost while avoiding conflict and other ethical issues that sometimes accompany mined stones.
Solid Platinum, 14k gold, and silver post earrings:
Solid recycled precious metal secures your gems using traditional master goldsmithing techniques. We never use glues, cheap lightweight settings, or plated metals. Comfortable and wearable for active lifestyles and those who sleep in their earrings. Nickel free with the exception of 14k white gold.
How to choose a stud earring size:
3mm is a tiny stud earring perfect for cartilage and multiple piercings. 4mm is a dainty stud earring that also works well for cartilage piercings. 5mm is a good minimalist everyday stud earring size. 6mm is large, but still casual. 8mm are statement stud earrings with a bold look. Click through the product photos to see different sizes pictured with a US dime for scale.
What to know about gemstone jewelry:
Gems (yes, even lab created gems!) are individual pieces of nature's art with minor variations in pattern, color, size, and shape. Gem sizes can vary +/- .2mm. Often, large gems are darker than small ones. I do promise you'll be happy with them, and accept exchanges as well as special requests like "Prefer darker green over lighter" which I will do my best to match within my stock. Some gems are fragile and should not go in an ultrasonic or steam cleaner.
