Moissanite: a diamond alternative with real star power

A brilliantly sparkling pale turquoise blue. While these are all pastel, the smaller sizes show more color while the larger sizes contain only a faint trace of color. These may look white in bright lighting and show their blue side in more subdued circumstances. If you’ve always felt that colored gemstones weren’t sparkly enough, you’ve met your match made in heaven. These are cut from somewhat less costly rough than most of our Moissanite, and a very discerning eye can tell that they don't have quite the intensity of dispersion as our higher-end offerings. However, we feel that these are a stunning option for a very reasonable price.

A note about Moissanite:

Originally discovered in meteorites, Moissanite immediately caught the attention of jewelers, and a process was developed to grow it in a lab. Nearly as hard as diamond and even more brilliant, they are the premier diamond alternative.

For many years, Charles & Colvard held the patent on Moissanite production. The patent has lapsed, and now other labs produce it in varying quality. There are visible differences between different sources, and for white Moissanite we recommend C&C’s DEF color Forever One line as the best white Moissanite on the market. However the differences are subtle and in earrings, take a discerning eye to detect. For more affordable Moissanite options as well as colored Moissanite, we take care to curate the best quality alternatives that we can. 

Important note: Moissanite is difficult to grow and cut, and not cheap. We hold direct wholesale accounts for C&C, domestic, and Chinese Moissanite. Many of the listings for Moissanite jewelry are NOT selling the real thing, because the price is below what the material can be obtained for at wholesale. Period. If it’s cheap, it’s not Moissanite, and mid-range stuff may be of questionable quality. Much “colored Moissanite” is coated to produce the color, and coatings wear off. Our colored Moissanite is solid with no coatings. I’m well aware that our pricing looks high, but we actually have a thin profit margin on authentic, top-quality Moissanite.

What are Lab Created gems?

These are no imitation: they're cut from genuine sapphire crystals grown in a lab to exactly replicate their formation in the depths of the earth. Lab grown gems provide high-quality gems at a lower cost while avoiding conflict and other ethical issues that sometimes accompany mined stones. Lab created gems are not infinitely available in every possible color forever. And sometimes, colors change or stop being available - which is a good reason to collect these affordable gems when you see something you love for sale. Growers do go out of business or discontinue colors.

How to choose a stud earring size:

3mm is a tiny stud earring perfect for cartilage and multiple piercings. 4mm is a dainty stud earring that also works well for cartilage piercings. 5mm is a good minimalist everyday stud earring size. 6mm is large, but still casual. 8mm are statement stud earrings with a bold look. What to know about gemstone jewelry:

Gems (yes, even lab created gems!) are individual pieces of nature's art with minor variations in pattern, color, size, and shape. Gem sizes can vary +/- .2mm. Often, large gems are darker than small ones. I do promise you'll be happy with them, and accept exchanges as well as special requests like "Prefer darker green over lighter" which I will do my best to match within my stock. Some gems are fragile and should not go in an ultrasonic or steam cleaner.
